What is life?
Each of us develops our own personal philosophy of life to answer questions
that we have all entertained at least once in our lives.
Here in this pavilion, one can experience the “harmony of life”
that has been repeating itself for 3.8 billion years.
As a result of this experience,
our world and own individual lives undergo changes.
As of today, we have yet to experience the “Progress and Harmony for Mankind” that was envisioned as the theme of Expo 70. The world has been plagued by repeated catastrophes, economic stagnation, and even a new war. Modern society is becoming increasingly fragmented. Why can we not escape the chaos?
This may be because the “philosophy of life,” a fundamental perspective on what “life” is, is disappearing.
At our pavilion, “DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM OF LIFE,” with dynamic equilibrium as our keyword, we would like to hand over our philosophy to redefine life for a better society and future of the Earth.
Signature Pavilions
The Brilliance of Life Project, a central thematic project of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, has been envisioned for the Expo’s most creative pavilions. This project is being led by eight producers active at the forefront of their respective fields of endeavor. These pavilions have been recognized as “Signature Pavilions,” as they will display signature works that expand on “The Brilliance of Life” theme by reflecting the respective philosophies of these innovative thinkers. These installations will encourage visitors to consider life from new perspectives and perhaps update their notions regarding the nature of life.
One of these pavilions, the DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM OF LIFE Pavilion developed by FUKUOKA Shin-Ichi, highlights the theme “Quest of Life.”
The pavilion’s architecture, characterized by its large floating roof, embodies the autonomous order that emerges only momentarily in the ever-changing flow of life while dynamic equilibrium is being maintained.
Upon entering the DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM OF LIFE Pavilion, one is presented with an image of their life being immediately disassembled into particles that dissolve into the flow, reflecting the eternal story of the evolutionary history of life.
This pavilion will deliver an experience that gently prompts visitors to question the very core of their view of life as they rediscover the meaning and hope that arise from life and death.
A virtual version of this Signature Pavilion will also be made available. It adheres to the same theme as that of the actual venue, yet it takes advantage of the characteristics of the online world to offer an Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan experience that anyone can participate in at any time and from any location.
